Wyatt Butcher

Introducing

Wyatt had a varied career path including farming, valuation and property management, and teaching before entering Christian ministry in the mid 1990’s. The death of his fourteen year old son in 1999 ultimately led him to the role of Chaplain to the Specialist Mental Health Services of the Canterbury District Health Board, working primarily in the inpatient setting. A role he has enjoyed of 22 years. Wyatt is retiring from this role and is building up his supervision practice. He is developing training programs and seminars in a range of topics

He has degrees in Commerce (B.Com (VPM)) and Christian Ministry (B Min) and Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching, Master of Health Science (Mental Health) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision. Wyatt’s PhD study was interrupted by a moderate head injury 4 years ago. He is the president of the New Zealand Healthcare Chaplains Association and is on the editorial board of “Health and Social Care Chaplaincy”, a peer reviewed academic journal. He has had one journal article published from his master’s research and has contributed chapters for a book on paediatric chaplaincy and nursing texts.

Wyatt is married with two grown daughters and four grandchildren. In his spare time he is a keen fisherman and hunter who restores, builds and rides custom motorcycles and more recently an off road four wheel drive vehicle.
